Springtime Picnics

There’s something magical about the first true days of spring in Florida. The air softens, the sun stretches a little longer across the afternoon, and suddenly every park, backyard, and lakeside patch of grass feels like an invitation. Spring is picnic season at its finest—when citrusy breezes mingle with birdsong and the world feels just a bit more generous.
And if you really want to elevate your picnic game this year, let’s talk about the unsung hero of outdoor lounging: the quilt.
🌼 A Quilt That Brings Comfort—and Team Spirit

Imagine spreading out the handmade log cabin quilt, stitched in bold bright colors with a backing in University of Florida colors—deep orange and bright blue radiating from the center like a burst of Gator pride.
The log cabin pattern, with its rhythmic strips and timeless geometry, feels both nostalgic and modern. It’s the kind of piece that sparks conversation before you’ve even unpacked the sandwiches.
But here’s where it gets even better: this quilt is backed with a waterproof layer.
That means:
No damp grass creeping through
No worrying about morning dew
No sacrificing comfort for practicality
Just pure, cushioned relaxation with a side of school spirit.
🧺 Setting the Scene
Picture this: You find a shady spot under a live oak, Spanish moss swaying overhead. You unfurl your quilt (whatever school theme you choose), the bright colors glowing against the green grass. A basket opens to reveal fresh fruit, pimento cheese sandwiches, and maybe a jar of sweet tea. A book, a frisbee, a friend or two or three—it all comes together effortlessly.
A treasured quilt becomes the anchor of the afternoon, the place everyone returns to between wandering conversations and sun‑drenched daydreams.
🌤️ Spring Is Short—Savor It
Florida’s spring is a fleeting treasure, tucked between winter’s cool relief and summer’s bold heat. It’s worth celebrating with moments that feel intentional and joyful. A picnic is simple, but it’s also a reminder to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy the season while it lasts.
And if you can do it on a quilt that blends craftsmanship, comfort, and a little Gator pride? Even better.
I recently finished up the quilt pictured below for my oldest daughter, who is a student at the University of Florida, to enjoy this picnic season.
